Minnesota’s Grammy Award-winning Okee Dokee Brothers
have released their first picture book! It’s called Can You Canoe? and Other Adventure Songs, and includes a 12-song CD with songs like “Through the Woods” and “Black Bear Mama.” The songs are fun and spirited and inspire parents and kids to get outside and get creative!

Can You Canoe? journeys cross-country in 12 songs, from the rolling hills of Appalachia in the East to the canyons and campfires of the west.
Along the way, The Okee Dokee Brothers’ irresistible, boot-stompin’ tunes invite kids to wander through the woods and wilderness, where they’ll discover hungry black bears and tall-tale spinners; quiet canoes and cozy camping tents; a jumpin’ jamboree and a bullfrog opera!
The book and CD set make a GREAT road-trip companion for families, and is ideal for ages 4 and up. Our family is heading on a road trip soon and we’ll be bringing this along (the fun songs help keep the kids in a good mood!). ABOUT THE OKEE DOKEE BROTHERS
Band mates and childhood best friends, Joe Mailander and Justin Lansing, grew up in Denver and toured the midwest with their bluegrass band before settling in Minneapolis and starting their family music band, The Okee Dokee Brothers.
In 2011, Joe and Justin began a canoe trip at the headwaters of the Mississippi River, and ended at the St. Louis Gateway Arch. During their month-long journey on the Mississippi, they camped, canoed, filmed and composed the songs that make up their album Can You Canoe? This CD-DVD is the first release in their Adventure Album Series. The album received praise from NPR, won a Parents’ Choice Award, and USA Today called it their “…favorite album of 2012.” Can You Canoe? also won the GRAMMY Award for Best Children’s Album of the Year in 2013.
Their second album, Through the Woods, was nominated for a GRAMMY Award for Best Children’s Album of the Year in early 2015. Their latest album, Saddle Up, was just released.
On August 20, 2013, Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton proclaimed “Okee Dokee Brothers Day” in the State of Minnesota!
