Disney + Basics
Family movie night can be an exciting event that kids look forward to all week. For under 10 dollars per month, you can have access to “The best stories in the world, all in one place.”
Disney Plus is an ad-free streaming service with content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. It includes movies and TV shows from the past and present, with new original programs, beloved classics, recent box office hits, and everything in between.
You can subscribe monthly for $6.99 per month or purchase an entire year at a discounted rate of $69.99 per year ($5.83 per month). There is an additional bundled package that includes Hulu and ESPN+ for $12.99 per month if you want an even bigger selection of movies, shows, and sports.
In case you aren’t sure that this is the content you are looking for, try a 7-day free trial with no strings attached.
For the Disney fan in your life, there’s even an option to send a full year gift subscription. You can choose for it to come as a gift card or via email.
Disney Plus is available on all of your favorite devices – TV, computer, mobile, and game consoles such as PS4 and Xbox One. If you don’t have a smart TV, you can access it via Chromecast or Roku. Kids can watch their favorite Disney movies and shows in the car using an iPad or Tablet, making trips more enjoyable.
In its initial launch, Disney Plus had over 10 million subscribers. It hopes to compete against one of the biggest streaming services, Netflix, which has more than 150 million subscribers around the world.
With titles such as Toy Story 3, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Simpsons, Lion King, and many more, you get hours of entertainment with something for everyone in your family.
All of Your Kid’s Favorite Shows in One Place
With many streaming options out there, Disney Plus has a lot of competition. But unlike many of the other services, it appeals to a broad audience and is especially family-oriented, much like the larger brand itself.
For young children, there is a Disney Junior Series category with shows like Muppet Babies, Little Einsteins, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse geared to spark imagination and learning. Pixar movies such as Cars, Toy Story, and Finding Nemo provide fun for younger ones as well.
Animals and Nature offer a variety of shows about our world and the animal kingdom. These are educational and entertaining and provide fun for the whole family.
Newer releases like Frozen and Moana, along with The Princess Collection, are great for the little princess in your own home. The Best Friends category displays shows with themes your kids might be going through as they venture through their school years.
Disney Channel Favorites and Throwbacks have Boy Meets World, Darkwing Duck, Hannah Montana, and others with a similar subject matter. Kids of all ages will enjoy the humor and relate to the characters.
If you want to relive some of your childhood memories with your kids, the Out of the Vault category includes timeless tales like Peter Pan, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. You can enjoy all of the animated classics together.
It Has Something For Everybody
Disney Plus has Ultra HD and HDR versions of popular movies such as Star Wars, Captain Marvel, Free Solo, Avengers: Endgame so that you can experience all your favorite characters and stories at the highest level of quality.
Originals, such as The Mandalorian, have quickly created a buzz around the internet. A live-action version of Lady and the Tramp seeks to recreate an old classic for a current audience. And fans of the High School Musical movies will love the original series based on the franchise.
The library of movies and TV shows spans the entire lifetime of the Walt Disney Company. Some other categories include Musicals, Nostalgic Movies, Feel-Good Sports Movies, Vintage Disney, Documentaries, Shorts, and more.
Child Profiles Keep Your Kids Safe
Young children may not be ready for some of the content on Disney Plus. The Marvel and Star Wars franchises contain some subject matter better suited for teens and adults, and other shows may have themes you might want to watch with discretion.
Thankfully, Disney Plus offers Parental Controls to ensure your kids are only watching shows you’re comfortable with. You can create a separate profile for your child that will provide only content suitable for kids.
Here’s an easy guide to help you set them up:
- Go to disneyplus.com in your web browser on your phone or computer
- Log in to your account (or sign up, then login)
- Create a new profile with your child’s name and choose an avatar
- Switch the toggle over to “Kids Profile”
Creating a profile for your child can be fun for them and comforting for you. They can choose one of their favorite characters as their profile picture/avatar, such as Baby Yoda, Elsa, Simba, Spiderman, and many more.
While this Kids Profile is a great feature, it doesn’t allow you to customize the content or designate the age of the child. You may still want to filter content before allowing your children free access to the device.
